Hey,
I I’m looking for 1 Frost Mage and/or 1 Elemental Shaman for my 5-man arena team - Hate Crew.
The requirements are:
Mature and serious person who can take any jokes, it is not epix whore, and wants to play in a competitive environment in order to achieve top performance
Knows his class very well in all aspects and to fight against all other class in game
Can be play any spec of his class, and is able to respect in order to help the team needs
Can play 3 days / week (around 3 hours) arena – usually Friday night, Sunday and Tuesday – this can be negotiated as usually we decide together when we will play
His PvP gear has at least 9,000 hp / 100 resilience and decent +healing/+spell damage/+crit
If you're interested either post here or contact me in game.

P.S: rest of the requirements are not a problem
P.S2. i was to some arenas on 3v3 but i want to try the 5v5 ones :D

why not Full fire, full Arcane or Aracne/fire ... ?
what the spicial in Forst .. to stay alive while the other died ?

Nope, its prety simple actually so even i can come up with an answer. Not only is the frost mage very very good to kite and get out of trouble with frost nova and slowing spells while one of main dangers for the clothies in our team are enemy warriors / rogues, but you also have the 2x IceBlock which makes the difference between you and fire mage that you are alive and focus firing you won't work. Ofc they can make u lose the 2 ice blocks over some time keeping DPS on you but you practically should not die for some time and its good.

Fire mages die in 4 seconds. Frost mages dont die easily, thats the difference. And the difference in damage isnt actually that big. U can spec arc power + cold snap & ice block too, for imba burst.
Madavaster
24th March 2007, 21:55
yea Allora said it shortly. ofc mage with full gladiator + other pvp gear wont die in 4 seconds but still very very fast if he faces another good team that know h2play

26th March 2007, 11:11
you can always spec elemental ^^
40 fire / 21 frost, and you get the imba ice block, and the huge damage output of fire :)
including blast wave (I think that's the name), adding one more slow effect on the players
***
by "Frost mage" don't read 61 frost. But 21 iceblock frost :)
Turbo
26th March 2007, 11:15
elementals can't use ice spells cause it kinda sucks without most of the improvements from the ice skills and using fire has no slow effect :); arcane is better cause you have AP that is insane dmg and the PoM that is very very useful in killing healers
P.S: let's not forget the improved counterspell.........
Esk
26th March 2007, 11:17
ofc elementals don't use ice spells ^^
That's the whole point.
You are a fire mage, with imba crits, imba burst damage, blast wave, combustion etc etc
And, you can iceblock
Elementals are fire mages with iceblock. And they can very well use frost nova, in other words, everything you need.
PoM is overrated, very overrated :) You get *one* instant spell... usually an instant sheep or frostbolt. As for the AP? Unless used on a warrior that charges in (so the mage just stays back and gets lucky if warrior doesn't shield-reflect), if you want to go for a healer you usually move a bit towards him (to have range), but guess what, priest can move too ^^
My fave thing is to fear the AP mages as soon as they buff themselves.
You see them too, nice manly, coming forward (as I tend to stay back as healer), AP activation, trinket (big nice red circles) activation... YEY.. fear ^^
AP mages are sitting ducks (either fire or frost) after casting their burst, since their spec is exactly for this: One big nuke at the start. And after you get this, they won't be able to provide high damage output, as they don't have the talents for it, in either frost or fire.
(Note: I am talking about PvP here, in PvE arcane has it's advantage, mana lasts longer, AP gets cast 2 times during a boss fight at least etc)
***
The improved counterspell is the only thing that makes it interesting, however if you CS a paladin, normal CS is just as good. Pala has 3 secs on his heal, all his spells are holy, if you CS when he is casting, you put him out of buisness for 10 secs :)
You can CS priest while casting too, it's really not that hard, the difference is the priest will still be able to use shield and dispel :)
***
Tbh if you want to kill a healer, the elemental (41 frost) is far more annoying:
- 600-700 damage /hit
- helps interrupting the cast
- adds a frost nova
- you can summon it 2 times during the fight

PoM+AP followed by a pyroblast is pretty nice though ^^

PoM+AP followed by a pyroblast is pretty nice though ^^
ofc it is, problem is, you do it one time :) after that, game over
We met a team with 2 ap-pom mages in pvp. Flamewings charged in. First time we met them, were unprepared of their nuke, and flame died. We lost that game.
But later, when we met them again, flames didn't charge, they came, did their best nuke, we spamed heal on flames and kept him up, and that was the end for them. gave over ^^
The idea for them is of a nuke-focus on one player, to eliminate him in the first few secs of the fight. This way they fight 5 vs4. However, if that fails, they lose.

"Summons a Grounding Totem with 5 health at the feet of the caster that will redirect one harmful spell cast on a nearby party member to itself every 10 seconds. Will not redirect area of effect spells. Lasts 45 sec."
Thats how I deal with pom pyro mages. :D

first stay alive is skills ....for forst or fire or even naked
second the best kiter for 1 target is arcane mage who take 41 point in arcane build using [Slow] which (Movement speed reduced by 50%. Time between melee and ranged attacks increased by 25%. Casting time increased by 25%.) and it is intsant with 600 base mana ....well slow is efficient vs any 1 target caster or mele.
the Forst is better for kiting multible target as we all know
and Fire he can kite if he want as well using (10% chance to stun &using Blast wave Dragon's Breath, Forst Nova and Cone of Cold (cone of cold shar same CD with D'sB
so in end mages can kite whatever they want but why i need to kite while i can sheep ?
3rd... mages vs shamens ...same as rouges pallidans whatever class can ressit or whatever they do .....if i know thier trick do u think i will cast (BoM+pyro) from the first . even though 1 shot dead not anymore in this game (my higst record so far with scroch is 7k) ...yes i can make like 9-10k damge in 3 sec but not from 1 shot and with much of luck ..... actullay i like to use aoe with arcane power if i have good healing that means 1500-2000 hit to everyone around which about 5-8 aoe ....(and somthing i like not means somthing smart )
and i have to know they know my tricks so when i know they know my trick , and they know i know ...oh whatever
4th the best thing about arcane ...u can use all school (fire, forst, and arcane) if u reduse your cast time ...... i mange to get full fire which give about 1700 hit in 1 firballs , and i tred 40/21/0 ..which give me 1600 hit for 1 firball ... and with same gear ....the big diffrence is the crit bouns arcane have 50% more dmg when crit so when i get more than 20% crit chance that alot of dmg .....
so if u think arcane mage only 1 shot and then he cant do anything. i tell u that .... u wrong we can sheep and conjure water :]=
oh and best thing ever when u spell steal BoM and AP from mages .... that so lame
in the end whatever mage u want in your team have fun with him
GL and cya's

it's nothing about staying alive in 1v1 or in PvE
It's about staying alive till heals land on you vs:
- 1 warrior charge and apply MS on you
AND any 2 of the following (at the same time):
- rogue coming out of shadows and stun
- hunter nuking AND SILENCE from far away
- mage CSing you and then nuking
- warlock fearing, cursing, silencing with felhound and nuking
- shadowpriest SILENCE and getting you filled of dots
- windfury shaman (though those are rare)
You can kite ONE class. Nobody says fire mages can't do it.
The problem is, what do you do when 3 classes are nuking you and can kill you in 3-4 secs?
This is not about mages alone vs one class, or about how much damage you can do to one player. It's about the mage in a team of 5. You and your team are facing 5 others, usually 2 healers and 1 dps, and as a mage, you will be 1st target of their 3 dps.

mages is the first target ... even from other mages
and about staying alive ..... with good gear and skiilful healer, u can stay alive if 3 targeting u
and yes Esk i am taking about arena, it is all about the fast u act whatever your build and ablitiy

lawl i laughed a bit really. i have 10500 UNBUFFED hp , 105 resillience , demonice resillience talent ( additional 3 % crit chance on me reduction) , Soullink to pet who absorbs 20 % of the dmg i take, death coil + hp stone ready. and i do still get killed sometimes , so can only imagine how fast would it go with mage.
skillful healers..........well , there is something like silence, counterspelling , blinding , fearing , sheeping healers. a player who dies in just a few sec is a weak link
and to Putins question yes , warlock is very often a 1st target. coz
on 1 hand
-he is cloth
-cant iceblock, blink, many classes/races dont give a fuk about his fears
and on the other left alone a affliction warlock rly fast puts up 5x 4 dots on ur party = 20 dots ticking. demonology still can put 2 instant dots , fear, drain life whatever, or destro can aoe , nuke fast n nicely, letting him live is not good
Esk
28th March 2007, 19:52
however, few teams have both mage and lock
usually it's one or the other. A *frost* mage won't be 1st target (ppl will go for rogue or shaman or hunter) since he iceblock, barrier etc, and ppl look for a fast kill.

well..enemy team cant know is it fire or frost mage before battle starts..and with bop even firemage can survive, cause there is not many teams with spell dps only
Yes they can. Frost mages start with ice barrier activated. Others dont. Ofc, u can be frost and not have ice barier, but having it is a clear indication of being frost. Furthermore, enemy team will know what spec u are after the 1st spell u cast rly. And also, u meet the same team again, they know what spec u got. Especially after making a mistake.
And the bop. It can be dispelled / purged. Any decent team ull meet after 1900 will take it out in seconds, except those who dont got any purger. But 90% do have at least 1 of the 4 classes that can purge.
Bmw, fire mages die in split seconds no matter what healer they got. Fire spec in an enviroment where class survivability is the main issue is a joke. Further resilience from enemy makes it even more useless.
As for why ppl zerg locks, its mainly cuz they die fast. They typically got 10% phisical damage reduction, all classes have some mean to evade fear, plus is can be dispelled, and there is nothing else the lock can do about living but that. Furthermore, having melee focused on some lock means he wont even get to fear things except with insta aoe fear. A demo lock is more tricky to take out, but on the other hand demo locks are the least dangerous of all locks, since all their dots are dispellable, no unstable affliction and no interesting burst ability.

yea its good analysis with a slight BUT. demo warlock with full gladiator rly wont be easy to take out, if u all focus on him it may be just that its the only person u gonna dps till the end and he wont fall while his team will tear ur flesh from bones in the meantime. and left alone he can chain fear, his demons can dps and he may have 2 felguards , or 2 felhounds thx to fel domination (0.5 sec summon ) , he can do shadowburn dependent on spec or put dots while fearing the dispeller, drain , and throw u instant shadowbolts from Nightfall + its class with really high HP. shadow priest can die faster than lock , 1 fear thats all , no soullink , not surprisingly mcuh hp
heh was bit funny yesterday in 2 v 2 with holycola we met some high rated mage + hunter, hunter sent pet in at blades edge, dunno what for, i put corruption up,at the last tick of Corruption nightfall procced. so we charged in , plan was to take out mage asap, i can tell u from final list of dmg he i think he didnt do any dmg at all, got instant sb + stun same moment, spellock, death coil, then 2 nightfalls procced one after the other. and hunter died almost instantly after mage. was rly fun coz i actually had rly nice burst(2 bolts critted). think it last like 18 seconds max from the moment we charged in

With our Team (Esoteric Dynasty) we tryed a Fire Mage. U can have all the skill in that world, but if they focus you, and u don't have ice block/ice barrier, u can say /goodbye, even with a dedicated healer on you.
We have a Warlock also with 11k HP, i've to say he is rly hard to get down, so imho Warlock > Fire Mage in Arena

He is the current "god" of warlock arena PVP.
His role in the 5v5 team is being the tank. A decoy. While the other team is busy trying to take him down (not an easy task) his team mates rip them apart.
Considering his 5v5 rating (number 1) and 3v3 rating (number 2) he must be doing something right.

the fact that locks > mages in arena is unqustinable fost or fire
and if your fire mage is noob and die fast what i can do for him ....doh
bmwi, you need to see 1900+ rating teams, things are quite different than you'd expect ;)
2 healers can't keep someone up against 2 MS warriors for example.
Ofc you can do arena with any spec and have great fun (and gather a decent amount of points :) ), but if you want to go for some top-competition, the spec counts (adding to the skill &gear).
Most of the posts regarding mage spec in this thread go for 1900+ arena teams, where every small detail makes a difference.
